![]() ![]() The despatcher said I'm very sorry she is a new driver (that is clearly untrue the way she navigated the roads) are you happy to pay $50? We did do this and I said to the driver that was a mean thing to do we are visitors to your town and your country. The police officers were speaking on their walkie talkies when the woman came out of the car and handed my husband her cell. The police officer then said to her you have broken the law you are not allowed to tout for business at the airport you are only allowed to pick up a booked fare. I have to go I'm going to another job she said, but I love the police officer who said ma'am you aren't going anywhere get into the car and wait. I have to go the driver said you can sort it out with my controller but I said no that's not happening as he could then demand the money and have us arrested if we didn't. I asked them to come over and there was confusion at first as they thought we'd booked an Uber cab and were just complaining about the fare but they finally understand that she had approached us and ushered us to the cab telling us she was a city cab. The hotel guy said there are police officers there and with great luck there were 4 police officers standing outside the hotel. So we hadn't just been conned into getting into an Uber cab but it us the executive even more expensive car. I am an Uber black taxi and this is what we charge she said. The guy came over to get our cases and he heard me say you will have to call the police because we are not paying that fare. My husband and me both said in unison there is no way we are paying that. We pulled up outside the Sofitel Magnificent Mile and she turned her cell phone towards us and said the fare is $148!! ![]() I got increasingly worried as we both realised this wasn't correct but as we were on the way I was just wondering not if she would overcharge by that point but how much. We got into the cab, both feeling concerned we'd made a mistake ( we realised when we spoke later) but neither of us unfortunately said no this isn't right! She then said I will start the meter now and pressed her mobile/cell phone, there was no meter in the car. But there is usually a set fare to the city from an airport, not in Chicago she said. Hang on we said are you a licensed taxi driver, a city cab because the others are yellow, oh we have different coloured taxis in Chicago. We arrived at the taxi rank and a woman was standing by a black car and ushered us to the car, hers was the first car in the rank and there were yellow taxis behind her. CDL owners, Uber and Lyft drivers DO NOT own a chauffeur license and need not to apply.Hi, thought I'd give a ward of warning for a trick that we naively fell for on the taxi rank at O'Hare last week. ![]() This is not your driver’s license and it’s not your CDL. Need to own the City of Chicago Livery Chauffeur License or Taxi Driver’s License (Hard Card).Applicants must be at least 24 years old. ![]()
